MEETING THE COMMUNITY – REX PUDOL, HALYCON CARE HOME

As part of our new Community Spotlight series, Rex Pudol, Home Manager at Halcyon Care Homes, explores the importance of outstanding care and how the team brings this to life for residents at the Glenvale Park Care Home…

Can you tell us a bit about Glenvale Park Care Home?

Launched in April 2022, our care home is situated within the growing Glenvale Park community in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. Now open, the luxury home offers Inclusive permanent and respite care in a safe, secure and welcoming environment. Set within a picturesque location, the residents, staff, and visitors can all benefit from our peaceful surroundings, as well as being close to all the shops and amenities Wellingborough Town has to offer.

Within the home, we have a quaint, peaceful library where residents can enjoy a game of chess, read a book, or enjoy the fresh air on the balcony. When the weather permits, our garden room provides easy access to the outdoors, whilst our communal lounges offer a calm, welcoming space for visitors and residents alike. We’re also particularly proud of our cinema room, which is great for catching up on programmes or a favourite film, but it can be easily converted into a games room, too.

What do you like most about your job?

There is a lot of fun to be had in a care home, it is a very social environment, and our lifestyle team works hard to create a diverse activity schedule which encompasses the needs of everyone who chooses to live with us here at Glenvale. The fun events we host is the element that we enjoy the most, these are the stories and the photographs that families love to see on our social media platforms. However, behind all the fun events, there is also the serious matter of providing outstanding care to people in a time of need.

What sets your care home apart?

We don’t make a song and dance about the measures that we put into place, but we do ensure that team members are trained to the highest level; training which is bespoke and regularly updated and revisited to maintain standards. The management team creates and conducts workshops which recreate a range of clinical situations, relevant to a care setting, demonstrating a best practice approach in each.

Our team are aware of the importance of our commitment to residents, to respond to our call system within five minutes, and our regular monitoring demonstrates that this is consistently achieved for those living at the home. Achieving that commitment is a testament to our team and their ability and desire to support one another.

We equip our team with up-to-date technology to support them, too. Medication management, care plans and training are recorded via a database; ensuring instant access for all who require this information. The use of technology cuts down on admin hours, allowing for more time spent with residents.

Although we’ve only been here a few months, the care team have already forged strong relationships with multi-disciplinary teams across the community. This enables them to rely on their full support when assisting our residents, which includes GPs, district nurses and physiotherapists, safe in the knowledge that they are on hand to support us every step of the way.

What are your future ambitions for the care home at Glenvale Park?

I am very proud of everything the team has achieved so far at Glenvale Park – we have a dedicated team that works collaboratively with one another, which removes the need for us to bring in agency staff. That means we can build a real rapport and trust with our residents. Our ultimate aim at Halcyon Care is to see happy residents and content families, who are safe in the knowledge that their loved ones are well cared for. We’re committed to continuing to deliver on that aim and we’re really excited to see the finished development at Glenvale Park and the coming together of the community in the months to come.
