“Buying new meant we could buy our own dream home, not someone else’s”

Jess and Marc Green recently moved from busy Borehamwood for the relative tranquillity of Wellingborough, a Northamptonshire market town located an hour’s train journey north of London Kings Cross.

Jess and Marc, who work in the charity sector, recently made the journey north as ‘empty nesters’, after their daughter left for university.

The couple opted for The Grange house type. A 4-bedroom mid-terrace property at Niort Grove, Lagan Homes’ new development at Glenvale Park, on the northern edge of Wellingborough.

Having spent 25 years living at their previous home, Jess and Marc took the big step of embarking on the next phase of their journey and have set down roots in the growing Glenvale Park community.

Whilst it meant upping sticks from their family home, Jess insists the move felt right from the moment they saw the property: “We lived in Borehamwood, and really hadn’t planned on moving this far north, but as soon as we walked into this house, we just felt at home.”

Once development is complete, Glenvale will be replete with over 200 acres of parkland space, which proved to be a big positive for Jess: “When you get up to the top floor of our house and you look out the window, the view is just dominated with blue sky and greenery. It’s a real game-changer having lived close to London for many years.”

Having moved into the property earlier in the year, the couple are settling down in their new Lagan home; with Jess particularly impressed with the generous living space on offer: “There are lovely, nice wide-open spaces throughout the home, and the overall design of the house is very well thought out. The Kitchen dining area is versatile, and the bedrooms are exceptionally generous space wise. The views from the top floor are truly special.”

The couple considered purchasing an existing home when they arrived at the decision to move, but Marc comments that the perks of buying a new build home tipped the scales: “buying new gives you a blank canvas, which is great; you’re buying your own dream home, not someone else’s.”

In comparison to the existing homes they saw, Marc was drawn to the abundance of storage space throughout their new build: “For me, a big selling point was the wardrobe space. Walking in and seeing built-in cupboards was a real plus.”

The initial phase at Glenvale Park is now well established with significant resident amenities delivered or in the process of being delivered. Many of the new homes are occupied and a strong community has already formed. It’s something which Marc is relishing being a part of: “Although it has only been a few months, there’s a great community feel here already – we’re even going out for dinner this weekend with our neighbours.”

Mark Best, Director of Midtown Capital, the developers behind Glenvale Park, said:

“Glenvale Park has always been about delivering more than just new homes. It’s about building a new community which will benefit people locally, which is why we love to hear about the growing community as people come to call Glenvale home.

“In addition to providing much-needed homes for the area, the development has also delivered an impactful social value programme. Once complete, Glenvale Park will include several new assets for people locally, such as a community hub and schools, in addition to delivering 675 new affordable homes and creating 898 job opportunities.

“For every pound spent on construction, the development will generate £2.03 of social value for the local community – an estimated £1.6bn. That’s why we’re particularly excited to see residents move onto the development as Glenvale’s community continues to grow.”

As part of its social value programme, Glenvale Park will create nearly 900 jobs and apprenticeships during the construction process and an estimated 3,000 longer-term jobs created in the business park. This will be in addition to those generated from the commercial elements of the masterplan which include a community centre, two primary schools and retail facilities.

The show home and marketing suite at Niort Grove are open every day, 10 am to 5 pm.
